What is Doula-ing really?
We all know that doulas have been experiencing more and more hype and publicity over the last few years. But are doulas a fad? What do doulas even do?
Actually, doulas have been around for hundreds of years, although the term "doula" wasn't coined until 1969. Women have been helping other women during childbirth and during the postpartum period since the beginning of time!
Questions to ask your Care Provider
You just found out you're pregnant! Oh man, where to even start?! Searching for a care provider can be stressful, but as long as you know the right questions to ask, you can find someone who is on board with your birth plan, compassionate, and someone you trust.
Here are some of my favorite questions to ask Obstetricians and Midwives:
All about Cervical Checks
"Let me check you to see where you're at" is something we hear all too often from our care providers. But is checking the cervix doing more harm than good? Do we really need to "see" how far along we have come in our labors? Cervical exams are OPTIONAL!
Turmeric Porridge - The Perfect Postpartum Meal
Nutrition is extremely important during the postpartum time, and it's a chance to warm the body after losing a lot of heat during birth. This meal is delicious, nutritious, and can be enjoyed by the whole family!
5 Ways to Keep Calm When You Are On-Call
This blog is for new birth workers who are nervous about living the on-call life. Trust me, I was a new doula once too, and I was an anxious mess!

Interview with Dr. Amanda Gotschall [Video]
Pelvic Health is super important, especially before, during, or after pregnancy. Amanda is an amazing resource for those looking to support their pelvic bowl!
Will my Doula Replace My Partner?
Absolutely not! This is a common question, and I love to reassure my clients that my job is not to replace your partner, but to ENHANCE the experience for both of you. Your partner is your number one support system, your love, and your confidant. I want you both to have an empowering and POWERFUL experience together as a team. As a Doula, I supply tools, knowledge, and an extra set of hands which are all very beneficial during labor.
Maternal Mental Health with Julie [Video]
Mental health is something that people don't talk about, and being a new mom can add so many different emotions!

Herbs for Immunity and the 4th Trimester [Video]
Over the weekend, I interviewed a dear friend about herbal medicine. Carrie is the founder of Mountain Moon Medicine- providing consultations, herbal remedies, and wellness advice for all individuals. I was amazed at her expertise! It was such a pleasure to talk to a professional about the current COVID-19 situation, and what we can do to prevent illness!
World Doula Week 2020
Each day of the week has a new prompt, but I am going to include all of them in one blog.
Praise the Postpartum!
The postpartum period isn't about "getting your body back", or "getting back to your regular schedule". It's about connection, rest, healing, and bonding. I know, you've just spent 9+ months being pregnant, not being able to do things you usually would do, but Mama, I'm here to tell you.... this time is soooo sweet! 40 days is usually the most essential time to rest and rejuvenate, but depending on the person, the postpartum period can be the first year after birth.
