Questions to ask your Care Provider

Questions to ask your care provider

You just found out you're pregnant! Oh man, where to even start?! Searching for a care provider can be stressful, but as long as you know the right questions to ask, you can find someone who is on board with your birth plan, compassionate, and someone you trust.

Here are some of my favorite questions to ask Obstetricians and Midwives:

  1. Do they allow doulas and partners in the delivery room/surgical room?

  2. What is their (doctor and hospital) Cesarean rate? Do they offer gentle Cesarean options?

  3. What is their induction rate?

  4. Do they support you pushing in different positions?

  5. How do they monitor the baby? Do they require constant monitoring?

  6. Will they support a breech vaginal birth?

  7. Will you allow me to eat/drink during labor?

  8. Do you practice skin to skin and delayed cord clamping?

  9. Will you allow me to labor without interruption?

  10. How long do they allow pushing before transferring to surgery?

Remember that you can change providers at any time during your pregnancy!
